The Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Monday that the death toll in the ongoing Gaza war has reached a staggering 62,004, marking a grim milestone in the 22-month conflict that began on October 7, 2023, between Israel and Hamas. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 60 Palestinians were killed, contributing to the escalating casualty count. Additionally, 156,230 individuals have been wounded, reflecting the severe human cost of the prolonged violence in the region.
The ministry highlighted the dire circumstances surrounding humanitarian aid efforts, noting that 1,965 people have been killed while attempting to access aid from convoys or near distribution sites. On Monday morning, seven Palestinians lost their lives in such incidents, underscoring the dangers faced by civilians seeking basic necessities amid the conflict. The Health Ministry, staffed by medical professionals, provides data considered the most reliable by the United Nations and independent experts, despite not distinguishing between civilian and combatant casualties.
Israel has contested the ministry’s figures but has yet to release its own comprehensive casualty count, leaving the Palestinian Health Ministry’s reports as the primary source of information. The relentless violence continues to deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with growing calls for international intervention to address the mounting loss of life and alleviate suffering in the war-torn region.
