The British Transport Police (BTP) has launched a thorough investigation following a suspected racially aggravated assault on two elderly Sikh men outside Wolverhampton train station on August 15, 2025. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, saw the victims, local taxi drivers in their 60s and 70s, brutally attacked, with one man’s turban targeted, as captured in a viral video circulating online.
Three suspects—a 17-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 25—were arrested shortly after the incident, following a swift response from BTP officers and assistance from an off-duty BTP Chief Inspector. The suspects were taken into custody and later released on bail. Superintendent Sue Peters, BTP’s local policing commander for the Midlands railways, confirmed the incident is being treated as racially aggravated. “I do not underestimate the level of concern this incident has caused to the victims, their families, and the wider community,” Peters stated, noting that several officers sustained minor injuries during the arrests.
The investigation includes ongoing witness statements, CCTV analysis, and social media inquiries. The victims, who suffered injuries and significant distress, have been approached for statements at a time suitable for their families, with their welfare prioritized. Peters refuted claims of delays due to resourcing issues, emphasizing the BTP’s commitment to a robust response.

Community groups, including the Sikh Federation UK, have expressed alarm over a perceived rise in anti-Sikh hate crimes, urging West Midlands MPs Warinder Juss and Sureena Brackenridge to intervene. The group highlighted the attack’s brutality, noting, “This growth in hate towards those visibly different has coincided with the ‘anti-immigration’ agenda.” The BTP is engaging with local MPs, the Sikh community, and the Sikh Police Association to address concerns and ensure justice.
