Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said on Wednesday that he is traveling to Beijing aboard Air Force One alongside US President Donald Trump and a delegation of senior American business leaders for a high-profile summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking a significant diplomatic and economic engagement between the world’s two largest economies.
In a post on social media platform X, Musk confirmed his participation in the presidential trip, writing, “On my way to Beijing in Air Force One.” His statement came as reports indicated that a group of more than a dozen prominent US corporate executives, including leaders from major technology and industrial firms, were accompanying the delegation.
The visit is being closely watched as it marks the first trip by a sitting US president to China in nearly a decade. President Trump is expected to focus on securing economic agreements, easing trade tensions, and strengthening bilateral commercial ties amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and domestic political pressure.

According to reports, the delegation includes top executives such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, reflecting the importance of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors in current US–China economic relations. The discussions are expected to touch on sensitive issues, including export restrictions on advanced technology and market access for American firms operating in China.
Ahead of the summit, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held talks with Chinese officials in South Korea aimed at maintaining stability in a previously negotiated trade framework. The discussions are seen as part of broader efforts to prevent further escalation in trade disputes and preserve limited cooperation between the two countries.
The diplomatic outreach comes as President Trump emphasised the role of the accompanying business leaders in strengthening economic engagement, stating on Truth Social that he would encourage President Xi to “open up” China to allow American companies greater access to the market. The visit is widely viewed as a crucial test of US–China relations at a time of heightened global economic competition.
