Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday held detailed discussions with senior officials of four public sector banks to overhaul the payment gateway system of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), following widespread complaints from students over technical glitches during post-result services. The meeting focused on improving the digital infrastructure used for re-evaluation, verification, and procurement of answer sheet copies, which had recently faced disruptions affecting students across the country.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank. Officials said the discussions centred on building a more reliable, student-friendly, and efficient digital payment ecosystem for CBSE-related services. The concerns emerged after several students reported payment failures, delays, and inconsistencies while accessing post-examination processes through the board’s online portal. The issue has triggered calls for stronger coordination between education authorities and banking institutions.
Pradhan directed the participating banks to work closely with the CBSE to establish robust payment protocols that ensure smooth and timely transactions. He emphasised the need for immediate resolution of failed payments, automated refund systems for excess or unsuccessful transactions, and real-time monitoring of the entire payment process. According to officials, the minister stressed that students should not be subjected to technical difficulties while accessing essential academic services such as re-evaluation or answer sheet verification.

The banks assured full cooperation and agreed to implement necessary technical upgrades in coordination with the CBSE. The initiative includes strengthening payment gateway infrastructure through advanced safeguards and improving grievance redressal mechanisms to address transaction-related issues more efficiently. Officials said the objective is to ensure secure, seamless, and uninterrupted digital transactions for students across India, particularly during high-traffic post-result periods.
The development follows earlier consultations between the Education Ministry and the Finance Ministry, where it was decided that the same four public sector banks would assist in improving CBSE’s digital payment framework. The government has also engaged technical experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur to examine reported glitches in the CBSE portal, including payment failures and concerns related to answer sheet handling under the On-Screen Marking system. According to IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti, a joint team has already begun its review, while the CBSE portal has reportedly remained stable for over 72 hours.
Officials said the CBSE has already initiated the re-evaluation and verification process for answer sheets amid ongoing scrutiny of its digital systems. The broader effort aims to prevent recurrence of technical disruptions and restore confidence among students and parents. With multiple agencies now involved, authorities hope to build a more resilient and efficient examination support infrastructure capable of handling large-scale academic processes without glitches.
