An FIR has been filed against a woman sub-inspector of Delhi Police and her husband after the officer allegedly slapped a 78-year-old shopkeeper during a parking dispute in Rohini Sector 7, officials said on Sunday. The shocking incident has drawn public attention, with witnesses describing the confrontation as "unprecedented".
According to sources, the elderly shopkeeper, who runs a store in the area, objected when the woman attempted to park her car directly in front of his shop. The officer, who is reportedly pregnant, had come to the area with her husband for a medical check-up. She told authorities that she had requested permission to park briefly and intended to move the vehicle after her visit. When the shopkeeper refused, an argument ensued.
Eyewitnesses stated that the situation escalated quickly, with the officer allegedly slapping the elderly man. The woman reportedly acted aggressively, instructing onlookers to step aside and asserting her authority as a police officer. A crowd had gathered at the scene during the altercation.

A PCR call was made, and police from nearby stations rushed to the location. The officer and her husband were taken to a nearby police station, and an FIR was registered against both. The case is currently under investigation, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to determine the sequence of events.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who criticised the behaviour of a law enforcement official towards a senior citizen. Legal experts have highlighted that the act could attract charges under sections of assault and criminal intimidation, emphasising that age and public office could make the case particularly sensitive.
Delhi Police officials have confirmed that the matter is under investigation and assured that due process will be followed. Meanwhile, local authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the investigation and refrain from taking matters into their own hands.
