Delhi-NCR woke up to pleasant weather on Wednesday as fresh rainfall, cool winds and lower humidity brought relief from recent hot and humid conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital is expected to witness more showers through the day under generally cloudy skies, with the maximum temperature likely to remain around 32°C and the minimum near 25°C. The latest spell of rain marks the revival of the southwest monsoon after a prolonged lull across several parts of the country.

Rainfall on Tuesday brought down temperatures across many areas of Delhi, and the IMD has forecast additional rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong surface winds over the next three days. The weather department expects the renewed monsoon activity to gradually intensify, bringing widespread rainfall to northern, central and eastern India. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain, particularly in low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging.

The IMD stated that the southwest monsoon is first expected to strengthen over Northeast India before extending into eastern, central and northern regions. Meteorologists have predicted widespread rainfall with thunderstorms across multiple states, while isolated areas may experience heavy showers. The fresh spell is expected to provide significant relief to the Gangetic plains and parts of central India, where hot and humid weather has persisted for several weeks.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh continues to face a rainfall deficit despite the improving monsoon outlook. According to IMD data, the state has recorded 286.8 mm of rainfall since June 1, compared with the seasonal average of 335.3 mm, representing a 14 per cent shortfall. The situation is particularly concerning in Alirajpur district, where rainfall remains 78 per cent below normal, severely affecting the sowing of kharif crops.

Agricultural experts have expressed concern that the delayed rainfall has disrupted farming activities in several districts, particularly in rain-fed regions dependent on timely monsoon showers. Farmers are hoping the anticipated revival of the southwest monsoon will improve soil moisture levels and support ongoing cultivation. Weather officials believe the coming days will be crucial in reducing rainfall deficits across central India.

The IMD has advised residents in Delhi-NCR and other affected regions to monitor local weather advisories as rainfall intensity may vary throughout the day. While the fresh monsoon activity is expected to bring welcome relief from heat, heavy rain and thunderstorms could also lead to temporary traffic disruptions, waterlogging and reduced visibility in some areas. Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation as the monsoon regains momentum across the country.
