Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life in the national capital on Thursday as waterlogging on several major roads caused traffic congestion and left commuters stranded during the morning rush hour. Continuous overnight showers, followed by intense rainfall in the morning, affected vehicular movement across multiple parts of Delhi, creating difficulties for officegoers and daily commuters. The Delhi Traffic Police reported receiving at least 12 calls related to traffic jams across more than 10 stretches of the city.

Several arterial roads experienced slow movement as accumulated rainwater reduced road capacity and caused long queues of vehicles during peak travel hours. Authorities advised commuters to remain cautious and plan their journeys accordingly as teams monitored affected areas. The heavy downpour came after hours of overnight rain, which saturated several parts of the city before intensifying during the morning. Waterlogging was reported on important stretches, leading to delays for commuters travelling towards workplaces, schools and other destinations.

Many motorists were forced to navigate through flooded sections of roads, while some routes witnessed significant slowdowns due to congestion. Delhi has frequently faced traffic disruptions during periods of heavy rainfall, with low-lying areas and stretches lacking adequate drainage being particularly vulnerable to water accumulation. Civic agencies have often faced challenges in clearing rainwater quickly during intense showers, especially when rainfall occurs during peak commuting hours.

Traffic authorities and civic teams were deployed to manage the situation and reduce inconvenience for commuters. The Delhi Traffic Police monitored congestion points and issued updates regarding affected routes, urging people to avoid waterlogged areas where possible. Motorists were also advised to drive carefully due to slippery roads and reduced visibility caused by heavy rain. The rainfall provided relief from hot and humid weather conditions that had affected the capital in recent days, but the disruption highlighted ongoing concerns over Delhi's drainage infrastructure.

Urban flooding during heavy showers remains a recurring issue in several parts of the city, with experts pointing to rapid urbanisation, blocked drains and inadequate water management systems as contributing factors. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring weather conditions and road conditions as further rainfall is forecast in parts of Delhi. Residents have been advised to stay updated on traffic alerts and take necessary precautions while travelling, particularly during periods of intense rain when waterlogging and congestion are more likely to occur.
