Delhi Police has dismantled a clandestine weapons manufacturing unit in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, seizing a massive haul of firearms and ammunition. The operation, executed by a dedicated team from Sarai Rohilla police station, marks a significant blow to the illicit arms trade infiltrating the national capital, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
Acting on precise intelligence about a steady flow of illegal firearms into Delhi, the police zeroed in on the Mathura facility, which was operating under the radar in a nondescript location. The raid uncovered a sophisticated setup designed to produce and distribute weapons on a large scale. Among the recovered items were six fully assembled pistols, 12 partially completed firearms, six live cartridges, and raw materials sufficient to manufacture over 250 additional weapons. The police also seized an array of equipment, including high-powered drills, blow machines, and barrel pipes, indicating a well-organized operation.
This bust follows a similar operation on September 1, when Delhi Police uncovered a makeshift arms factory on Jattari Pishawa Road in Aligarh. That raid, which targeted another hub in the illegal arms network, revealed a comparable stockpile of weapons and manufacturing tools, signaling the widespread nature of the problem in the region. Authorities believe the two operations may be linked, pointing to a broader syndicate supplying illegal arms to criminal elements in Delhi and beyond.

The Mathura facility was housed in two securely locked rooms, designed to evade detection. Investigators suspect the operation was a key node in a larger distribution network funneling weapons into the capital for use in organized crime, gang activities, and other illicit purposes. The discovery has raised alarms about the proliferation of illegal arms in the region, prompting a renewed focus on curbing such activities.
A senior police official stated, “This operation is a testament to our commitment to rooting out illegal arms networks threatening public safety. The scale of the seizure in Mathura underscores the urgency of dismantling these operations to prevent weapons from reaching the wrong hands.” The official added that the police are working tirelessly to trace the supply chain and identify the masterminds behind the operation.
Further investigations are underway to unravel the full extent of the network. The Delhi Police are collaborating with Uttar Pradesh authorities to map out the distribution channels and apprehend key players involved in the manufacturing and trafficking of these weapons. Forensic analysis of the seized firearms and materials is also being conducted to uncover potential leads, including connections to other criminal enterprises.
The bust comes amid growing concerns about the rise of illegal arms in North India, particularly in areas close to the national capital. Delhi, with its dense population and status as a major urban hub, has long been a target for arms traffickers seeking to supply weapons to criminal organizations. The Delhi Police’s proactive approach, leveraging intelligence and swift action, has been critical in disrupting these networks.
Local residents in Mathura expressed shock at the discovery, with many unaware that such an operation was functioning in their vicinity. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could aid in further crackdowns.
As the investigation deepens, the Delhi Police remain on high alert, determined to dismantle the illegal arms ecosystem and ensure the safety of the capital’s residents. Authorities have promised stringent action against those involved, signaling that this bust is just the beginning of a broader offensive against illicit arms trafficking in the region.
