Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said that the Women’s Reservation Bill marks the beginning of a “new era,” stating that it reflects decades of progress in strengthening women’s participation in public life and decision-making.
Speaking to reporters, Gupta said the passage and implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam represents a historic milestone for women in India. She noted that the journey from earlier women-centric initiatives such as “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” has now progressed to a phase where greater political representation for women is being formally institutionalised.
The Chief Minister emphasised that increased participation of women in governance would have a transformative impact on policymaking and administration. She said that when women are included in decision-making bodies such as Parliament, state assemblies, and local bodies, they contribute meaningfully across sectors and help shape more inclusive governance outcomes.

Gupta also highlighted that opportunities for women have expanded significantly across various fields, including defence, science, industry, and professional careers. She said women in India are increasingly making their presence felt in diverse domains, reflecting broader social and economic change in the country.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that women-centric policies have remained a consistent focus of the central government. She credited these initiatives for creating an environment that encourages greater participation of women in national development.
Calling the legislation a significant opportunity for empowerment, Gupta said it would benefit women across generations by enabling them to contribute more actively to nation-building. She added that daughters, sisters, and mothers alike would play a vital role in shaping India’s future through enhanced representation and leadership opportunities.
