In the high-stakes Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction held in New Delhi, star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was sold to UP Warriorz for a staggering Rs 3.2 crore after a dramatic bidding war. Delhi Capitals initially secured her at Rs 50 lakh but UP Warriorz exercised their Right-To-Match (RTM) option and matched Delhi’s raised bid, ultimately winning the player.
The auction saw fierce competition among franchises for top talent. New Zealand’s all-rounders Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr also fetched hefty sums, going to Gujarat Giants for Rs 2 crore and Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore, respectively. However, Australia’s renowned wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy surprisingly went unsold. The intense bidding reflects the premium placed on multi-skilled players who can impact various facets of the game.
UP Warriorz entered the auction with a fresh slate, retaining only one player, Shweta Sehrawat, and holding the largest purse of Rs 14.5 crore along with four RTM cards. Their aggressive strategy led to securing Deepti Sharma, who was the Player of the Tournament at the 2025 Women’s World Cup, where she was the highest wicket-taker with 22 scalps and also a consistent contributor with the bat.
