In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia, a Dalit engineer from the Electricity Department was allegedly assaulted by a BJP leader, prompting fierce criticism from the All India Trinamool Congress. The attack, which took place in broad daylight, involved caste-based slurs, punches, and a shoe strike to the head, according to a viral video circulating on social media.
The Trinamool Congress condemned the ruling BJP, accusing its members of acting with impunity. "BJP leaders unleash savagery on Dalits, confident the system will shield them," the party stated on X. They criticized the BJP’s slogan "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" as a hollow promise, alleging it masks systemic oppression of Dalits.
The victim, superintending engineer Lal Singh, filed a complaint stating that the accused, BJP worker Munna Bahadur, and others stormed his office without permission. They reportedly used abusive language and physically attacked him. The video shows a heated altercation escalating into violence.

Munna Bahadur, arrested after the incident, claimed he visited the office to submit a memorandum about local power issues and alleged that Lal Singh abused him first. He further stated that he was the one attacked and injured. Charges have been filed under the BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The Trinamool Congress warned that such incidents reflect a broader pattern of caste-based violence under BJP rule. "Until BJP is ousted, Dalits will face assaults, and democracy will remain hostage to caste tyranny," the party declared. The incident has reignited debates over caste discrimination and political accountability in Uttar Pradesh.
