Australia have named a full-strength Test squad for the first time in nearly a year, with captain Pat Cummins, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and veteran spinner Nathan Lyon returning for the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh. The series marks Bangladesh's first Test tour of Australia since 2003, with the opening match scheduled from August 13 to 17 at Marrara Stadium in Darwin and the second Test from August 22 to 26 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

Cummins is set to make his first Test appearance since December last year after recovering from injury, while Hazlewood and Lyon also return following extended periods on the sidelines. Lyon missed a significant part of the Ashes series against England due to a hamstring injury, while Hazlewood has battled recurring hamstring and Achilles problems in recent years. Their return strengthens Australia's bowling attack ahead of the home series.

The 13-member squad also includes Scott Boland, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green and Beau Webster, giving selectors several options for the pace attack. However, the return of Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon is expected to create a selection dilemma, with Australia likely to leave one of Hazlewood, Lyon or Boland out of the playing XI for the opening Test in Darwin.

Selection Committee Chair George Bailey praised the returning players for their rehabilitation efforts, stating that Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon had worked extensively with the sports science and sports medicine teams to regain full fitness. He added that while the announced squad consists of 13 players, additional cricketers remain on standby should any changes become necessary before the start of the series.

Australia's selectors will also continue assessing long-term batting options following Usman Khawaja's retirement earlier this year. The squad includes experienced batters Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head, alongside Josh Inglis and Jake Weatherald, who are among the contenders to strengthen the top order in the post-Khawaja era.

Australia currently lead the ICC World Test Championship standings, while Bangladesh occupy fourth place. The series is expected to provide both teams with valuable points in the ongoing championship cycle as Australia look to maintain their position at the top of the table with the return of several key players.
