The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail till June 2 to Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a terror-funding case, following the death of his father.
The court’s decision came after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) informed it of the demise, seeking permission for Rashid to attend the funeral rites and related ceremonies. The relief allows him to participate in the burial and customary religious observances associated with his father’s death.
A division bench comprising Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Madhu Jain ordered that Rashid would remain under strict security supervision during the interim bail period. The court directed that at least two police personnel in plain clothes would escort him throughout his movement between Tihar Jail and Srinagar, and ensure compliance with all conditions imposed.

The bench further clarified that the MP would be strictly restricted in his movement during the bail window. He has been permitted only to visit the burial site or a place of worship and will not be allowed to travel to any other location under any circumstances.
Rashid, who has been in judicial custody since 2019, is an accused in a 2017 terror-funding case being investigated by the NIA. The agency has alleged that he was involved in financing separatist and terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The case is being prosecuted under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
In March 2022, a special NIA court framed charges against Rashid and others, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government, and sedition. The interim bail order marks a temporary humanitarian relief while the larger criminal proceedings in the case continue before the court.
