The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will convene a significant meeting at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, Bihar, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in attendance. AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru announced the event during a press conference on September 22, emphasizing the party’s commitment to strengthening its position in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly elections later this year.
Allavaru framed the meeting as part of Congress’ broader mission, describing it as fighting “the second war of Independence” in Bihar, a state that has emerged as a focal point of national politics following Rahul Gandhi’s 1,300-km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’. The CWC meeting will include all committee members and chief ministers from Congress-ruled states, signaling a unified front.
Allavaru accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in “vote theft” and likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a student resorting to unfair means, underscoring the party’s resolve to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The Congress leader expressed optimism about the INDIA bloc’s seat-sharing negotiations, stating, “Talks are being held on a positive note, and we will soon come out with a viable formula.” In contrast, he described the NDA as being in “disarray.” When questioned about whether Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav would be named the INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial candidate, Allavaru noted that alliance partners would decide collectively at an appropriate time.

State Congress president Rajesh Kumar highlighted the historical significance of hosting the CWC meeting at Sadaqat Ashram, a site associated with luminaries like Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Built on 20 acres donated by freedom fighter Maulana Mazahrul Haq, the venue adds symbolic weight to the gathering.
As Bihar gears up for a fiercely contested election, the CWC meeting underscores Congress’ strategic focus on mobilizing support and reinforcing its alliance to challenge the incumbent NDA government.
