Congress leader Imran Masood has criticised the Indian government’s handling of the ongoing West Asia conflict, claiming that the country has been “left stranded” due to delayed diplomatic and strategic action. Masood’s comments specifically targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of “waking up late” to the escalating situation and failing to protect India’s interests in a region critical for energy security and Indian citizens living abroad.
Speaking at a press briefing, Masood said that India’s response to rising tensions involving Iran and the United States has been reactive rather than proactive. He argued that the government should have taken early steps to safeguard supply chains, ensure the safety of Indian nationals, and engage with international stakeholders before the crisis intensified.
The West Asia conflict has disrupted global energy markets, particularly affecting crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies that India heavily relies on. Masood pointed out that the delays in strategic engagement have contributed to rising fuel prices domestically and increased uncertainty for Indian businesses and citizens dependent on regional trade.

Masood also highlighted the plight of Indian expatriates in the Gulf and neighbouring countries, many of whom are reportedly facing difficulties amid heightened tensions and travel restrictions. He claimed that timely diplomatic intervention could have mitigated these challenges and provided better protection for India’s diaspora.
The Congress leader further criticised the government for not effectively coordinating with allies and regional powers to mediate or de-escalate the conflict. He suggested that India’s strategic voice in West Asia is being weakened, and urgent action is required to reassert influence and ensure national security and economic stability.
Masood’s remarks come amid growing public scrutiny over the government’s handling of geopolitical crises and their domestic repercussions. Analysts say the West Asia situation underscores the importance of proactive diplomacy, energy security planning, and citizen protection in regions critical to India’s strategic and economic interests.
