The Gujarat government on Wednesday launched 182 new state transport buses, one for each Assembly constituency, as part of an initiative to expand last-mile connectivity and strengthen public transport across the state.
The buses were flagged off in Gandhinagar by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, along with Minister of State for Transport Pravin Mali, in the presence of ministers, MLAs, and senior officials. During the event, the leaders handed over symbolic keys to drivers representing the newly inducted fleet.
Addressing the ceremony, Patel said, “The addition marks another milestone in the public service commitment of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).” Deputy CM Sanghavi highlighted the government’s focus on improving accessibility and reliability of bus services across all regions, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Officials said the initiative ensures that every one of the state’s 182 Assembly constituencies is served by a new bus, reinforcing GSRTC’s mandate to provide “clean, safe, and time-bound” transport. The corporation operates over 8,000 buses daily, covering around 33 lakh kilometres and transporting more than 27 lakh passengers. Additional buses are deployed during festivals and religious fairs to manage increased demand.
The fleet expansion is part of a broader modernisation programme, which in 2024–25 saw the addition of 1,963 buses, including Super Express, Gurjar Nagari, sleeper, and mini buses. Officials also confirmed plans to introduce 200 Volvo and air-conditioned buses under a public-private partnership model.
The 182 buses, worth Rs 62 crore, represent the latest step in GSRTC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s public transport network, enhance commuter convenience, and support Gujarat’s wider development goals.
