A stray dog was allegedly shot dead in broad daylight by a motorcycle rider in Lucknow's Rajajipuram area, prompting anger among local residents and animal welfare activists. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 am on October 6 in C Block, which falls under the Talkatora police station area. Police have registered an FIR and begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the man was riding a motorcycle when he stopped after several stray dogs began barking at him. He allegedly got off the motorcycle, took out a rifle and fired at one of the dogs before leaving the area. The incident reportedly took place on a residential street while other people were present in the vicinity.
CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the investigation. The footage reportedly shows a man wearing a blue uniform arriving on a motorcycle with what appears to be a rifle slung over his shoulder. After stopping, he is seen handling the weapon before allegedly firing towards one of the stray dogs and subsequently riding away.

The incident has led to concerns among residents and animal welfare groups about the use of a firearm against an animal in a residential neighbourhood. Police are examining the available CCTV footage to establish the identity of the motorcycle rider and determine the sequence of events. Investigators are also checking the weapon seen in the footage and whether the person involved was authorised to possess or use it.
Police have registered the case under provisions relating to animal cruelty and are continuing their inquiry. The investigation will also seek to establish the circumstances that led to the alleged shooting and whether any other legal provisions apply. Authorities are expected to rely on CCTV footage, the complaint and other available evidence as they work to identify the accused.
The incident has renewed concerns about how conflicts involving stray animals are handled in urban areas. Animal welfare groups have long advocated for complaints involving street dogs to be addressed through lawful and humane measures rather than violence. The Lucknow case is now under investigation, with authorities working to determine responsibility and the circumstances surrounding the dog's death.
