A Tezpur-based woman, Jyotika Kalita, has been arrested and sent to jail in connection with alleged marriage to a Pakistani national and suspicious foreign financial transactions. The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into large sums of money being deposited into a Borjhar village family’s bank account.
The investigation began after Tezpur Police received reports of unusual inflows of funds worth several lakhs from abroad. Police registered Case No. 770/25 under Sections 316(2), 380(4), 340(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), launching a detailed probe into potential cross-border financial networks.
Jyotika was detained upon her return from Dubai on December 5, where the suspected financial transactions reportedly occurred. During the investigation, four individuals from Borjhar village—Jyotika Kalita, Jitu Kalita, Simu Das, and Abhijit Das—were arrested. While the others were sent directly to Tezpur Central Jail, Jyotika was initially placed in police custody for further interrogation.

On Thursday, after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Tezpur, Jyotika was remanded to Tezpur Jail. Police sources revealed that she married a Pakistani citizen on February 25 this year and has since traveled to multiple foreign countries, including Dubai and the UAE, potentially facilitating cross-border transactions.
Authorities seized 44 ATM cards, 17 bank passbooks, cheque books, and other financial documents from Jyotika and her associates, indicating a potentially wider financial network. Investigators are actively examining the sources of the foreign funds, the network of transactions, and any links with her international connections.
The case remains under active investigation, with police focusing on tracing the flow of foreign funds and the role of each accused in the alleged financial network. Officials are coordinating with financial and intelligence agencies to assess the full extent of cross-border links.
