BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal on Friday criticised IndiGo over the mishandling of his checked-in baggage during flight 6E-5237 from New Delhi to Belagavi, calling the incident “shameful” and highlighting concerns about passenger experience on India’s busiest airline. Khandelwal, who is also Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said his luggage contained important documents and essentials, and its loss caused “immense mental agony, serious inconvenience and financial loss".
In a social media post on X, Khandelwal emphasised that such negligence is unacceptable, particularly when experienced by a sitting Member of Parliament. “If this is the experience extended to a Member of Parliament, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary passengers,” he wrote, urging accountability and better passenger care.
Tagging Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, Khandelwal demanded an “immediate explanation” and clarification on corrective measures. He also appealed to Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, calling for government intervention to safeguard passenger interests and uphold service standards.

The complaint comes amid ongoing scrutiny of IndiGo’s operational challenges, including past flight disruptions, cancellations, delays, refund issues, and baggage mishandling. The airline had not responded to Khandelwal’s specific complaint at the time of reporting.
