Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies would secure a decisive victory in the upcoming state elections. Speaking to the media, he projected that the BJP would win between 96 and 100 seats, while the Congress would manage only 15 to 20 seats. Other parties, including the UDF, Raijor Dal, and AJP, were expected to win minimal representation, with Sarma citing 5–6, 1–2, and 0–1 seats respectively.
During the BJP’s manifesto unveiling, Sarma also criticized Congress leaders, urging the Jorhat MP to declare details of his spouse’s foreign earnings and banking records, alleging non-disclosure related to Pakistan. The Chief Minister highlighted transparency as a key electoral issue, claiming certain opposition members had withheld critical information from the Election Commission.
Sarma outlined the party’s legislative priorities, including implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam while protecting the rights of tribal and indigenous communities. He also promised the government would introduce stringent measures to tackle what he described as “love jihad” and “land jihad,” reflecting the BJP’s focus on law-and-order and cultural preservation in the state.
