The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, faces sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party for planning a visit to Berlin from December 15 to 20, 2025, coinciding with the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, which concludes on December 19. BJP spokespersons have labeled him a "Leader of Paryatan" and "Leader of Partying," accusing him of prioritizing international travel over parliamentary responsibilities and national duties.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla asserted that Gandhi's frequent abroad excursions demonstrate a lack of seriousness in politics, contrasting with the public's work ethic. He referenced Gandhi's recent jungle safari during Bihar elections and suggested the Berlin trip could involve defaming India, terming it part of a "Bharat Badnami brigade." Union Minister Pralhad Joshi echoed these sentiments, describing Gandhi as a part-time leader who absents himself from sessions yet complains about limited speaking opportunities.
In response, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother by highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's extensive foreign travels, questioning the BJP's selective scrutiny of opposition figures. She emphasized that Modi spends considerable time abroad, rendering the attacks on Rahul Gandhi hypocritical and politically motivated.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi attributed the BJP's barbs to their inability to address Gandhi's queries on electoral irregularities. He contended that such personal maligning serves as a diversion tactic when substantive answers prove elusive, underscoring the opposition's focus on accountability.
The Indian Overseas Congress framed Gandhi's Berlin engagement as a strategic outreach to bolster the party's international presence. Scheduled for December 17, the event will convene IOC presidents from Europe to discuss NRI concerns, party strengthening, and ideological dissemination, positioning it as a vital platform for diaspora connectivity.
