A 44-year-old man, Vishwanath Shirol, lost his life in a tragic road accident in Athani town, Belagavi district, Karnataka, after his motorcycle crashed into a residential wall. The incident occurred on January 15 in the Kumbara Galli area but came to light recently following a review of CCTV footage.
Initially, witnesses believed the crash was a routine motorcycle accident. However, security footage revealed that Shirol was being chased by a stray dog at the time of the accident. In an attempt to escape, he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the wall, sustaining fatal injuries.
According to his family, Shirol had a deep-seated fear of dogs after being bitten by a stray in the past. He was the sole breadwinner for his family and is survived by his wife and three children, leaving relatives devastated by the sudden loss.

The accident has triggered outrage among Athani residents, who voiced concerns over the growing stray dog population in the town. Many locals are demanding immediate action from municipal authorities to clear streets and ensure road safety.
Athani Police officials confirmed that the case is under investigation. Authorities are examining the CCTV footage and assessing measures to prevent such incidents in the future, while also urging residents to exercise caution on streets with stray animals.
Residents and community leaders have called for stricter implementation of animal control measures and public awareness campaigns to prevent similar tragedies, highlighting the urgent need for a coordinated response to stray dog issues in urban and semi-urban areas.
