In a landmark move, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has revealed plans to establish the Bihar State Safai Karmachari Commission, aimed at transforming the lives of sanitation workers across the state. Announced via a post on X, this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to the socio-economic advancement of one of Bihar’s most marginalized communities.
The commission will focus on safeguarding the rights of sanitation workers, offering recommendations to enhance their welfare, and ensuring the effective implementation of related schemes. It will address grievances, promote rehabilitation, and drive social integration for those in sanitation roles.
Led by a chairperson and vice-chairperson, the commission will include five members, with mandatory representation for women or transgender individuals. Kumar emphasized that the body will play a pivotal role in mainstreaming deprived sections of society, boosting their social and economic prospects.
