West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to make a statement in the state Assembly on Saturday regarding allegations and ongoing investigations linked to the Sebashray health camps operated by Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee in his Diamond Harbour constituency. The issue was raised during the extended budget session of the Assembly, with opposition legislators alleging irregularities in the functioning of the camps.

During the fifth day of the extended session, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Falta, Debangshu Panda, raised concerns over the Sebashray health camp and alleged that some patients suffered serious consequences due to improper treatment. He claimed that certain individuals faced severe medical complications and questioned the use of public spaces for running the camps.

Panda also alleged that playgrounds used for setting up Sebashray camps remained occupied for extended periods and claimed that restoring those spaces would require significant expenditure from the state government. He raised the matter in the Assembly and sought a response from the Chief Minister regarding the allegations.

Following the BJP legislator’s remarks, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shankar Ghosh informed the Assembly that the Chief Minister would provide a statement on the issue on Saturday, which is scheduled to be the final day of the extended budget session. The government’s response is expected amid growing political debate over the allegations surrounding the health initiative.

The Sebashray camps have faced allegations that they were conducted without proper government approval and involved the unauthorised use of medical equipment, medicines, and machinery. Some complaints have also alleged the use of radioactive substances, though these claims remain part of the ongoing controversy and have not been independently established.

Health workers and intern doctors associated with the camps have also reportedly raised concerns, alleging that they were brought to the programme with promises of certificates that were not later provided. The matter has now become a subject of political scrutiny, with the state government expected to clarify its position in the Assembly.
