Families of victims who lost their lives in a devastating fire at a Bangkok bar gathered at Police General Hospital on Tuesday to claim the bodies of their loved ones, as the death toll from the tragedy increased to 30. Authorities said several people remained unaccounted for, with relatives continuing to wait for confirmation and hoping that missing family members may have survived the deadly blaze. The fire broke out late Sunday evening at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar and restaurant in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district during a live music performance. Witnesses said flames spread quickly through the venue, creating chaos as customers rushed to escape. Several people were reportedly seen running out of the building with their clothes on fire as the situation turned into a major emergency.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and began rescue operations as firefighters battled the flames. Twenty-seven people were declared dead in the early hours of Monday, while another victim later succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident. By Tuesday morning, officials from the Chatuchak district office confirmed that the death toll had reached 30. At least 75 people were injured in the fire, with 24 of them reported to be in critical condition. Medical teams continued to monitor the condition of the injured victims, while authorities worked to identify those who died and provide support to affected families.
The tragedy left relatives devastated as they gathered at Police General Hospital to receive the remains of their loved ones. Families waited anxiously as officials completed identification procedures and handed over the bodies. Emotional scenes unfolded at the hospital, with one man seen holding an incense stick near a coffin as he mourned the loss of a family member. Among those searching for answers was Booyaporn Sermsiri, who arrived at the hospital hoping to find information about her 25-year-old daughter, Jawaee “Cartoon” Sermsiri. The young woman remained missing after the fire, leaving her family waiting for confirmation.

Booyaporn said her daughter’s friend had contacted her early Monday morning to inform her about the incident and said she had been unable to reach Cartoon after the fire broke out. The 51-year-old mother provided a DNA sample to police and was waiting for the results, which officials said could be available later on Tuesday. “I am praying. Praying that she is alright,” Booyaporn said, expressing her hope that her daughter was among those who survived the disaster. Like several other families, she remained caught between uncertainty and grief as authorities continued the identification process.
Officials said three victims had still not been identified, while investigations into the cause of the fire and safety conditions at the establishment were underway. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that allowed the flames to spread rapidly and assess whether any safety violations contributed to the high number of casualties. The Bangkok fire has triggered renewed concerns over safety measures at entertainment venues, particularly during crowded events where large gatherings can make emergency evacuations difficult. As families mourn their losses and wait for further information, authorities continue rescue, identification, and investigation efforts following one of the city’s deadliest recent nightlife disasters.
