Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, announced on Thursday, December 11, 2025, that its family-orientated electric scooter, the Rizta, has surpassed the 2 lakh unit sales milestone, cementing its position as the brand's fastest-growing model to date. Launched in April 2024, the Rizta achieved its first 1 lakh sales in May 2025, with the subsequent lakh units sold in just six months, reflecting accelerating demand amid India's booming EV scooter market. Priced between Rs 1.05 lakh and Rs 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom), the scooter has captured over 70% of Ather's total sales, shifting the brand's focus from enthusiast models like the 450 series to practical, family-focused mobility solutions. This surge aligns with Ather's broader milestone of crossing 5 lakh cumulative electric scooter sales nationwide, as per Vahan and Telangana Vehicle Online Sales data, underscoring the company's expanding footprint in a competitive landscape dominated by players like Ola Electric and TVS.
The Rizta's success has been pivotal in Ather's "Middle India" strategy, driving nearly doubled market shares in key non-southern states during FY26. In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Ather's presence grew from 7% in Q1 to 14% in Q3 (up to November 2025), while Punjab saw an increase from 8% to 15%, and Uttar Pradesh from 4% to 10%. This regional expansion has been fuelled by recent updates, including the introduction of the Terracotta Red colour scheme and the Rizta S variant with a 3.7 kWh battery, which offer enhanced accessibility for middle-class buyers. Since its debut, Ather has aggressively scaled its retail network to 524 Experience Centers across India by September 30, 2025, with plans to deepen penetration in underserved areas. Ravneet Singh Phokela, Ather's Chief Business Officer, highlighted the model's role in broadening the consumer base: "Rizta has been on a roll from the very beginning, enabling us to expand distribution aggressively, especially in Middle and North India."
Designed with family practicality in mind, the Rizta stands out for its spacious 56-litre storage—split between 34 litres under the seat and an optional 22-litre frunk—alongside a roomy floorboard for added comfort during daily commutes. Available in S and Z variants, it delivers IDC-certified ranges of 123 km and 159 km, respectively, powered by a 4.3 kW motor with a top speed of 80 kmph and 0-40 kmph acceleration in 4.7 seconds. Safety features like SkidControl traction control, Fall Safe (which cuts power during falls), Emergency Stop Signal, theft and tow alerts, and the "Ping My Scooter" locator (via AtherStack Pro) enhance its appeal for urban riders. An over-the-air (OTA) update earlier in 2025 introduced touchscreen functionality to the Rizta Z, announced at Ather Community Day, further elevating user experience without hardware changes.

Ather's rapid growth with the Rizta signals a maturing electric two-wheeler ecosystem in India, where government incentives and falling battery costs are propelling adoption rates beyond 10% of total scooter sales in 2025. Competitors like the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak continue to vie for share, but Ather's emphasis on software integration and a nationwide fast-charging network of over 4,300 stations positions the Rizta as a benchmark for family EVs. As the company eyes international markets like Nepal and Sri Lanka, Phokela affirmed ongoing investments in accessibility: "Our focus remains on strengthening product accessibility through deeper distribution and building on this strong base." This milestone not only validates Ather's pivot to volume-driven segments but also bodes well for sustainable urban mobility in India's heartland.
