Panic spread across parts of Ludhiana in Punjab and Gurugram in Haryana on Tuesday (March 10) after at least ten schools in the two cities received bomb threat emails. The messages claimed that explosive devices had been planted inside school buildings, prompting swift security responses and emergency evacuations.
As soon as the emails were detected, school authorities alerted local police. Security teams, including bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs, were deployed to the affected schools to conduct thorough inspections. Students, teachers, and staff were evacuated as a precaution while personnel searched classrooms, corridors, and surrounding areas to ensure safety.
According to reports, the emails specified that explosions could occur at particular times—1:11 pm inside schools and 3:11 pm on trains. The messages also contained threatening references and set a deadline asking migrant labourers to leave Punjab before the Baisakhi festival on April 13. Authorities stressed the seriousness of the threats but emphasized the need for calm as investigations continued.

Among the schools targeted were Jesus Sacred Heart School in South City, KVM School on Hambran Road, Army Public School in Dholewal, Ryan International School in Moti Nagar, DAV School in Daad Village, BCM School in Basant Avenue, Sacred Heart Convent School, Narayana E-Techno School in Bhattian, Dashmesh Academy in Bhamian, and DAV Public School in BRS Nagar. Security personnel carried out detailed inspections at each location, and initial searches did not uncover any suspicious objects.
This incident follows a pattern of similar threat emails in Punjab in recent months. In February, nearly 16 schools in Mohali received comparable threats, which prompted evacuations before authorities later confirmed them as hoaxes. Similar warnings have been reported in Amritsar and Jalandhar, targeting public spaces such as schools and shopping complexes. Earlier this year, the district and sessions judge in Ludhiana also received emails warning of suicide attacks, with many messages traced to masked IP addresses.
Police have urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations are ongoing. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, coordinating with school administrations to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the wider community.
