The flood situation in Assam has continued to remain a major concern, with the death toll rising to 78 as several districts remain affected by overflowing rivers and heavy monsoon rainfall. According to the latest official data, thousands of people have been impacted, large areas of farmland have been submerged, and authorities are carrying out relief and monitoring operations across the flood-hit regions. The latest reports indicate that seven districts are currently affected by floods in the state. These include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Biswanath and Kamrup (Metro).

Floodwaters have spread across 21 Revenue Circles (RCs) and 551 villages, disrupting normal life for residents in several rural and urban areas. Around 3,00,031 people have been affected by the ongoing flood situation, with many facing challenges related to shelter, transportation, access to essential supplies and damage to their livelihoods. Agriculture has suffered a major setback due to the flooding, with official estimates showing that 21,523.08 hectares of crop land have been damaged across the affected districts. The flooding has submerged standing crops, creating difficulties for farmers who depend heavily on agriculture for their income.

Officials are assessing the extent of losses and evaluating possible support measures for affected farming communities once the floodwaters begin to recede. The latest phase of flooding has also resulted in additional casualties. Three people have lost their lives in the current flood situation, with two deaths reported from Sivasagar district and one from Golaghat. With these fatalities, the overall number of flood-related deaths in Assam has reached 78. Authorities have continued to urge people living in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations.

Among the affected regions, Kamrup (Metro) has faced challenges due to urban flooding. Unlike riverine flooding in rural districts, urban flooding has affected several localities and wards, causing waterlogging and disruption in daily activities. Three Revenue Circles in the district have been impacted, with authorities working to manage drainage issues and provide assistance to residents affected by rising water levels. Assam experiences recurring floods every year during the monsoon season due to its geographical location and extensive network of rivers, including the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.

Heavy rainfall in Assam and neighbouring regions often causes rivers to overflow, leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas. These floods frequently result in damage to homes, roads, bridges, agricultural fields and public infrastructure, while also affecting the livelihoods of thousands of residents. Government agencies, district administrations and disaster response teams have been coordinating relief efforts in the affected areas. Measures typically include providing emergency assistance, monitoring water levels, evacuating people from vulnerable locations and ensuring the availability of food, drinking water and medical support.

Officials are also conducting assessments to understand the overall impact of the floods and plan rehabilitation efforts for affected communities. The flood situation remains under close observation as weather conditions continue to influence water levels across the state. Authorities have advised residents to stay updated through official announcements and avoid entering floodwaters due to risks associated with strong currents, contaminated water and hidden hazards. With several communities still facing the effects of flooding, the focus remains on rescue operations, relief distribution and minimising further loss of life and property.
