The Assam Congress has lodged a formal complaint with the Dispur Police Station, accusing the BJP of using AI-generated videos on social media to stir communal unrest and foster hatred between religious communities. The complaint, filed by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Media department chairman Bedabrata Bora, targets the state BJP's social media cell for criminal conspiracy, incitement to disturbances, promoting enmity, and breaching the model code of conduct (MCC) in place for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
The allegations center on a video titled 'Assam without BJP,' uploaded on September 15, which depicts a dystopian vision of an Assam dominated by Muslims. It features fabricated scenes of legalized beef sales in public areas, renamed landmarks with Islamic symbols, inflated claims of a 90% Muslim population, and Muslim figures imposing Sharia-like laws. The video concludes with a provocative call to "choose your vote carefully," allegedly designed to sway voters amid the BTC polls. Bora described the content as explicitly fear-mongering against Muslims and defaming Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.
Bora highlighted this as part of a pattern, following a similar video posted on September 12 by the same BJP handle. "In Assam's sensitive communal environment, such content is explosive and dangerous," he stated, demanding a swift police probe, including forensic analysis to detect fabrication, seizure of devices from BJP's social media team, and orders to social media platforms to remove the posts under the IT Act, 2000. He also called for notifying the Assam State Election Commission about the MCC violations.

The complaint names BJP state president Dilip Saikia, social media cell co-convenor Shekharjyoti Baishya, and other unidentified functionaries involved in the party's Northeast content strategy. Police confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated they would review it before proceeding.
The BJP's X handle has been active since Monday, posting videos warning of threats from illegal immigrants altering Assam's demographics. The initial 'Assam without BJP' video uses AI imagery showing Muslims overtaking key sites like Guwahati, the airport, stadiums, tea estates, and the historic Rangghar amphitheatre. Captioned "We can't let this dream of paijan to be true," it urges careful voting. The term "paijan" mocks Gogoi, stemming from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's accusations of his ISI links.
Gaurav Gogoi dismissed the videos on X, saying, "The BJP IT cell's words, actions, and images can't dent Assamese society's resilience." He envisioned a progressive Assam shaped by icons like Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, Azan Pir, Swargadeo Siukapha, Lachit Borphukan, and Bhupen Hazarika, not by those involved in smuggling rackets. "We aim for an Assam of pilots, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and business owners—a 'bor' Assam where hard work prevails over hate, decency over arrogance, democracy over autocracy, and respect for all," Gogoi asserted.
The BJP hit back on X: "Visionary paijan dreams of a paradise his own kin won't touch! He chants 'Bor Axom' but excludes his family—perhaps knowing it's a haven for 'Kanglus' only. Step down; no one's buying it." Assam IPR Minister Pijush Hazarika defended the videos as highlighting illegal immigrants' demographic threats, questioning the "Islamophobia" outcry from "secular champions."
Chief Minister Sarma avoided direct comment, deriding Gogoi and Congress as "Amul babies" reliant on PR, with no real threat. He accused them of trivializing serious issues like Pakistan links, calling it shameful. This escalating row underscores deepening political divides in Assam, with the Congress vowing to fight against what it sees as divisive tactics ahead of the BTC elections.
