The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is gearing up for its 12th State Conference in Tiruchirappalli on March 9, 2026, with party leaders aiming to mobilize an estimated 10 lakh cadres for what is being positioned as a major show of strength ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The event, themed "Stalin Thodarattum TamilNadu Vellattum" (Let Stalin Continue, Let Tamil Nadu Triumph), will take place at Siruganur along the Tiruchirappalli-Chennai National Highway, presided over by Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin.
Preparations are in full swing across nearly 400-500 acres of private land, including construction of a grand stage with a specially designed ramp, large dining halls to serve food for lakhs of attendees, a 5 lakh litre water supply system, and arrangements for box-style seating to accommodate up to 5,000 people in enclosed sections. Municipal Administration Minister and DMK principal organizer K.N. Nehru has been tasked with ensuring maximum participation, appealing to functionaries from all levels—headquarters to branch secretaries, along with organizers of affiliated wings, MLAs, MPs, and executive members—to attend with "military discipline."
The conference holds symbolic importance for the DMK, which has historically chosen Tiruchirappalli for several state-level meets. Stalin has personally invited cadres through public appeals, urging them to gather in massive numbers to pledge support for continuing the "Dravidian Model" governance and securing another term. The event is seen as a platform to showcase organizational prowess, alliance unity, and readiness for the polls, coming shortly after seat-sharing agreements with partners like Congress.

The gathering coincides with heightened political activity in the region, as the NDA plans a counter public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 11, about 30 km away, underscoring Tiruchirappalli's strategic role in the pre-election landscape. With the model code of conduct expected soon, both sides are racing to demonstrate momentum through these large-scale events.
This ambitious mobilization reflects the DMK's strategy to energize its base and project invincibility, building on recent regional conferences, women's meets, and training programs that have already drawn significant crowds. As March 9 approaches, the focus remains on logistics and turnout, with the conference likely to set the tone for the ruling party's campaign narrative in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly polls.
