An Indian Army personnel was killed and two others injured after an Army truck skidded off National Highway-13 and fell down a hillside near Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district on Friday. The vehicle, which belonged to the 18 Sikh Light Infantry, reportedly lost control while negotiating a steep and difficult stretch of the mountainous road before plunging down the slope near the PT Ground of the 30 Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) campus.
According to officials, the accident occurred when the truck was carrying three Army personnel and was moving towards its unit. While navigating the hilly terrain, the vehicle reportedly veered off course, broke through a chain-link fence of the SSB campus, and rolled down a steep incline. The impact of the crash left the vehicle severely damaged, prompting an immediate emergency response from security personnel stationed nearby.
Rescue efforts were quickly launched by the Rapid Rescue Team (RRT) of the 30 Bn SSB after receiving information about the incident. The injured personnel were extricated from the wreckage and shifted for urgent medical attention. One of the injured soldiers was first administered treatment at the SSB unit’s medical facility before being referred to the District Hospital in Bomdila for further care.

The other two injured soldiers were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Dirang. However, Subedar Surendar Singh succumbed to his injuries despite medical intervention. The remaining two personnel are currently undergoing treatment at Bomdila District Hospital and Dirang CHC respectively, where doctors have stated that their condition remains stable but under close observation.
Following the incident, the SSB informed the concerned Army authorities, and coordination was established for further procedures. Officials confirmed that the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and an investigation has been initiated to understand the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control on the difficult terrain.
Authorities have noted that the stretch of National Highway-13 in the region is known for its challenging topography and sharp bends, often making travel difficult, especially for heavy military vehicles. Further details are expected after the completion of the investigation.
