Andhra Pradesh is set to add its eighth airport following the state Cabinet’s approval of the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport project in Nellore. Strategically located near National Highways and the ports of Krishnapatnam and Ramayapatnam, the airport aims to strengthen the state’s industrial and logistics network, offering seamless integration of air, road, and sea transport. Officials describe it as a “multimodal” project with long-term economic and commercial benefits.
The project has already received clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the state has officially invited private players to participate in both the development and long-term operation of the airport. Spanning over 1,300 acres, the airport is designed to accommodate growing passenger and cargo traffic while fostering private-sector participation in its construction and management.
Phase 1 of the Dagadarthi airport is expected to handle 1.4 million passengers annually, but the master plan envisions scaling capacity to 15 million passengers in the coming decades. Cargo operations are a key focus, given the airport’s proximity to major industrial hubs such as KRIS City and the IFFCO Special Economic Zones, making it a potential catalyst for trade and exports in southern Andhra Pradesh.

The airport is anticipated to create significant employment opportunities for the local population, spanning aviation, logistics, and construction sectors. Beyond jobs, it is expected to attract investment, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen the state’s position as an industrial and commercial hub in southern India.
State officials emphasized that this Cabinet approval signals a broader push to accelerate infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh. With private participation encouraged, the government hopes to ensure timely execution while leveraging modern technologies and operational efficiencies for long-term success.
The Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport is poised to be a transformative project for Nellore and surrounding regions, combining strategic location, multimodal connectivity, and private-sector engagement to support economic growth and future aviation demand in Andhra Pradesh.
