Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday criticised the Indian National Congress over protests held during the recent India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, accusing the opposition party of engaging in “negative politics.” Addressing a public gathering in Bhubaneswar, Shah said the protest attempted to undermine India’s global image at a time when the country was being recognised internationally for its advancements in artificial intelligence.
Shah said the summit had attracted representatives from more than 80 countries and leaders from around 20 nations, highlighting India’s growing influence in emerging technologies. According to him, the global event showcased the country’s progress and leadership in artificial intelligence, drawing appreciation from international participants and technology stakeholders. He argued that the protest by Congress workers during such a high-profile event sent the wrong message to the global community.
The Union minister alleged that some Congress supporters had staged a shirtless protest outside the venue of the summit in New Delhi, describing it as an attempt to defame the country during an international gathering. He said the demonstration took place while global delegates were attending discussions on artificial intelligence, innovation, and technological collaboration, which he described as a moment of pride for India.

Taking a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Shah claimed the Congress leader had failed repeatedly in his political initiatives. “You have failed in 20 launchings. If you continue with such practices, you won’t succeed even in 100 attempts,” Shah said while addressing the rally, intensifying the political exchange between the ruling party and the opposition.
The remarks come amid continued political sparring between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress over governance, development initiatives, and the opposition’s criticism of the central government. Leaders from both parties have frequently used public events and political rallies to target each other’s policies and political strategies.
The controversy surrounding the AI summit protest has further highlighted the widening political divide between the government and the opposition. While the BJP has framed the demonstration as an attempt to damage India’s international reputation, Congress leaders have defended their protests as part of democratic expression, reflecting the ongoing tensions in the country’s political landscape.
