Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the interests of India's youth and students are more important than any ministerial position, following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister amid the NEET-UG examination controversy. In a post on X, Shah said the Bharatiya Janata Party places the nation, its youth and students above political office, describing Pradhan's resignation as a reflection of that principle. His remarks came after weeks of nationwide protests demanding accountability over the alleged paper leak and examination irregularities.

Reiterating the Centre's commitment to reforming the examination system, Shah said the Narendra Modi government would continue implementing strict measures to prevent paper leaks and strengthen accountability. He stated that the government remains determined to restore public confidence in the country's examination process and ensure those responsible for irregularities face appropriate action. Shah also expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms would deliver justice to NEET aspirants affected by the controversy.

Alongside defending the government's response, Shah praised Dharmendra Pradhan's tenure as Education Minister and highlighted several initiatives introduced under his leadership. These included the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), expansion of examinations in regional and mother tongues, the rollout of PM SHRI Schools, promotion of digital education and efforts to strengthen skill development. Shah said these initiatives had contributed significantly to improving India's education system despite the recent crisis.

Pradhan resigned after sustained public and political pressure over allegations surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak. The issue triggered widespread demonstrations by students across the country demanding accountability and reforms in the examination process. His resignation coincided with an agreement reached between the Centre and the protesting Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), following which the student group announced the withdrawal of its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Before the official announcement of Pradhan's resignation, Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal visited his residence to express solidarity with their Cabinet colleague. The meetings reflected the government's efforts to manage the political fallout from the controversy while addressing growing public concern over the integrity of national entrance examinations.

Following Pradhan's resignation, senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Education until further arrangements are made. The government has indicated that examination reforms will remain a priority, with a renewed focus on strengthening security measures, improving transparency and restoring confidence in the country's competitive examination system after one of the most significant education controversies in recent years.
