Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated the Barapullah Phase-III elevated corridor in Delhi, a major infrastructure project aimed at providing signal-free connectivity between East Delhi and South Delhi. The inauguration was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Minister Kapil Mishra and other Delhi leaders.

The Phase-III corridor is the largest of the four projects forming the Barapullah corridor network. It is designed to connect Mayur Vihar Phase-I in East Delhi with the AIIMS area in South Delhi through an elevated route that avoids several traffic signals. The corridor is expected to provide a more direct connection for commuters travelling between the two parts of the capital.

The newly opened stretch connects with the existing Barapullah elevated road at Sarai Kale Khan, creating an approximately 9-km-long continuous corridor. The project is expected to improve traffic movement between East Delhi, Noida and important areas of South Delhi. Commuters travelling from Mayur Vihar, Noida and nearby areas towards Sarai Kale Khan and AIIMS are expected to benefit from the new route.

With the corridor now open, motorists can avoid several congested stretches and traffic signals along the route. Authorities expect the average travel time between East Delhi and AIIMS to fall from around 35-40 minutes to approximately 15 minutes, although the actual journey time will depend on traffic conditions.

The Barapullah corridor has been developed in phases as part of efforts to improve east-west connectivity across Delhi and provide alternative routes towards central and southern parts of the city. Phase-III is expected to strengthen connections between Delhi and Noida while easing pressure on some of the capital's busy roads.

The inauguration comes as Delhi continues to expand its network of elevated roads and signal-free corridors to address traffic congestion. With the Phase-III stretch now available to commuters, the integration with the existing Barapullah elevated road is expected to provide a more direct route from East Delhi and Noida towards South Delhi and improve traffic movement along the wider corridor.
