US Ambassador Sergio Gor held talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday and described the discussions as “fruitful”, emphasising the importance of the India-US partnership in addressing global security challenges. Gor also noted that both countries share several common objectives and that bilateral engagement is continuing to expand.
The meeting with Doval came a day after Gor held discussions with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, highlighting renewed high-level diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Washington. While the Indian side has not released details of the talks, defence cooperation, trade and critical minerals are learnt to have figured prominently in the recent discussions.
“Had a fruitful meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to discuss deepening US-India strategic cooperation,” Gor wrote on social media. He added that the close partnership between the two countries was vital to addressing global security challenges and that their engagement was growing.

The latest round of talks followed a phone conversation between US Vice President JD Vance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening comprehensive global strategic ties, particularly in areas such as trade, defence and energy security. The high-level engagement comes against the backdrop of evolving geopolitical alignments and continuing security concerns in West Asia.
India-US relations had faced strains following Washington's imposition of higher tariffs on Indian goods and disagreements over US President Donald Trump's claims regarding the de-escalation of the India-Pakistan military conflict in May 2025. New Delhi maintained that the cessation of hostilities resulted from direct talks between India and Pakistan and rejected suggestions of a US role in ending the conflict. Immigration measures and changes involving H-1B visas also contributed to tensions.
Despite these differences, both governments have continued efforts to stabilise and strengthen bilateral ties. Prime Minister Modi and President Trump had earlier directed officials to work towards a balanced and commercially meaningful trade agreement, while cooperation in defence, energy and strategic technologies remains an important part of the relationship. The latest meetings between Gor, Doval and Misri indicate continued efforts to deepen engagement across these areas.
