Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav unleashed a blistering attack on the BJP-led central government today, accusing it of orchestrating a deceptive GST “golmal” (fraud) that has jacked up prices and sparked public fury. Speaking to reporters after visiting SP national secretary Rajendra Chaudhary at his Gulistan Colony home to check on his health, Yadav charged the BJP with manipulating GST policies to burden ordinary citizens while staging hollow relief measures.
“The BJP slashed GST on finished goods for show, but hiked it on raw materials, driving up costs,” Yadav declared, exposing what he called a deliberate ploy to mislead the public. He argued that this sleight-of-hand has strained relations between customers and shopkeepers, as inflated prices persist despite BJP’s loud claims of tax cuts. “They’re not reforming the economy—they’re ruining trust in markets,” he said, slamming the government’s “failed” policies that have “looted” people since GST’s midnight launch eight years ago.
From bicycles to food and stationery, Yadav pointed out that everyday essentials have become pricier under heavy taxation, leaving traders and consumers in distress. “Why keep prices high for eight years if they can be lowered now?” he questioned, branding GST’s “confusing and arbitrary” rollout a nightmare for businesses. He advocated for Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia’s price control principles to tame inflation and restore prosperity, arguing that high profit margins continue to choke affordability.

Yadav didn’t stop at economics. He linked the BJP’s recent electoral drubbing in Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Sabha polls to public outrage over soaring prices, unemployment, and unjust taxes. “The BJP’s on the backfoot, but still trying to deceive people. Their defeat is the only path to relief,” he predicted, sensing a public awakening. He also took aim at the government’s foreign policy missteps, warning that U.S. tariffs—escalating to 50% and even 100%—are hammering Indian businesses, threatening economic stability.
The SP leader further blasted the BJP’s failures in health, education, and law enforcement. “Government hospitals are crumbling, forcing patients into costly private care,” he said, highlighting systemic neglect. On the rising menace of wild animal attacks in districts like Bahraich, Sitapur, and Pilibhit, Yadav demanded accountability. “People are dying from wolves, leopards, and pythons, yet the BJP denies the problem, claiming no animal footprints exist. Are victims’ wounds and lost lives not proof enough?” he challenged.
As public discontent simmers, Yadav’s fiery critique positions the SP as a champion of the common man, framing the BJP’s policies as a betrayal of trust. With elections looming, his call for economic justice and governance reform could galvanize voters fed up with the status quo, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown in Uttar Pradesh.
