Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also the guardian minister of Beed, conducted a two-day visit to the central Maharashtra district starting Wednesday, reviewing development projects and addressing local demands.
On Thursday, Pawar inspected key sites, including Champavati Krida Mandal, the historic Kankaleshwar temple, and the district hospital in Beed city. He directed officials to renovate the Kankaleshwar temple while preserving its historical significance, emphasizing cultural heritage. Pawar also engaged with locals at the district sports complex, underscoring community involvement in development.
During the visit, Pawar inaugurated the ‘Mission Sathi’ programme for sugarcane cutting laborers in Beed, responding to party colleague Dhananjay Munde’s demand to transfer the Gopinath Munde Sugarcane Cutting Labourers Corporation from the social justice department to the planning department, which Pawar oversees. He promised to discuss the issue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat.
“Beed has the highest number of sugarcane cutting laborers. We’re initiating steps to bring them into the mainstream of development,” Pawar told reporters, highlighting plans for mechanization in sugarcane cutting to improve efficiency.
Addressing broader issues, Pawar acknowledged Beed’s recent crime incidents that gained national attention, stressing the need for equal application of law. “Those doing wrong must be punished, irrespective of caste or party,” he said, advocating for a change in mentality to curb crime. To boost economic growth, Pawar announced a Rs 200 crore innovation and incubation centre in Beed, expected to train 7,000 skilled workers annually, fostering job creation and industrial development.
