The Government on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that all probable causes behind the June 12, 2025, Air India crash are under thorough investigation, with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) working to complete the probe in a time-bound manner. The crash involved flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, claiming 260 lives, including 241 passengers.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, said the AAIB is meticulously examining technical, operational, organisational, and human factors, leaving no possible cause unexamined. “All probable causes leading to the accident are being investigated, and all efforts are being made to complete the investigation within a stipulated timeframe,” he added in his written reply.
The preliminary AAIB report, released on July 12, 2025, revealed that fuel supply to both engines was cut off within a one-second interval shortly after take-off, creating confusion in the cockpit. Cockpit voice recordings reportedly captured pilots questioning the fuel cutoff, highlighting the critical moments before the crash.

Sources familiar with the probe said the investigation remains complex, with detailed examinations of multiple aircraft systems, components, and procedural records ongoing. “Nothing has been ruled out,” a source said, stressing the exhaustive nature of the inquiry and the need to assess all possible contributing factors.
The investigation is being conducted in accordance with international aviation safety norms and standards. While the preliminary report provided factual information, it did not include interim safety recommendations, leaving the AAIB to focus on a comprehensive final analysis to prevent future incidents.
Officials emphasised that the AAIB team is working systematically to ensure a thorough understanding of the crash, balancing speed with precision. The final report, once completed, is expected to shed light on both technical failures and human factors, providing critical lessons for aviation safety in India and globally.
