The AIADMK has enthusiastically endorsed the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu but insisted on stringent safeguards to ensure transparency and impartiality. In a formal statement, party organisation secretary D Jayakumar cautioned that state government employees tasked with the exercise must operate without political influence, accusing Chief Minister M K Stalin of preemptively manufacturing alibis for an anticipated DMK defeat in the 2026 Assembly elections. He demanded that the ECI closely monitor the process to prevent any manipulation of voter lists.
Jayakumar highlighted persistent inaccuracies in the current rolls, noting that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had repeatedly pressed the Commission to release a rectified voters’ list. He cited the 2024 R K Nagar constituency case, where duplicates, deceased voters, and relocated individuals inflated the rolls, prompting the party to petition the Madras High Court for the removal of approximately 44,000 bogus entries.
To date, the ECI has deleted 31,000 names, with investigations continuing for the rest. Similar discrepancies, he added, were flagged during court proceedings in constituencies such as T Nagar, Thousand Lights, and Chepauk.
In a counter-move, Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi (VCK) leader and Chidambaram MP Thol Thirumavalavan called for a united front under DMK leadership to resist the SIR, arguing that pending legal challenges warrant postponement not only in Tamil Nadu but also in West Bengal and Kerala. Speaking in Ariyalur, he urged all opposition parties, including the AIADMK, to rally against the revision until judicial clarity is achieved.

The AIADMK’s stance reflects growing apprehension over potential misuse of the SIR to disenfranchise legitimate voters or retain fictitious ones ahead of crucial polls. With the ECI yet to respond, the debate underscores deepening mistrust in Tamil Nadu’s electoral machinery as parties brace for a fiercely contested 2026 showdown.
