A 40-year-old woman has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Agra for allegedly murdering her husband, burying his body beneath the bathroom floor of their home, and living in the house for weeks while claiming that he had gone missing. The accused, identified as Ruby Sharma, is in police custody, while police await the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The case came to light after investigators uncovered inconsistencies during their probe into the man's disappearance.
According to police, the victim, 44-year-old Surendra Sharma, was reported missing after a complaint was lodged at Sikandra Police Station on May 26. Investigators initially treated the matter as a missing person case but soon began to suspect foul play. During the investigation, officers found discrepancies in statements made by family members and also noticed suspicious ATM withdrawals linked to Surendra's bank account. These developments prompted police to intensify their investigation and examine the family's movements and activities more closely.
The probe eventually led officers to the couple's residence in Renuka Dham Colony in Agra's Dehtora area. Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, police searched the house and focused on the bathroom, where they suspected the body had been concealed. After breaking the concrete floor and digging beneath it, officers recovered human remains believed to be those of Surendra Sharma. The remains were subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to establish the precise cause and time of death. Police have not yet released details about the forensic evidence recovered from the house.

Addressing the media, ACP Hariparvat Ameesha said that the investigation revealed Ruby Sharma had allegedly killed her husband and buried his body inside their home before covering the spot with concrete plaster in an attempt to conceal the crime. "During the investigation, police found that his wife had killed him and buried the body in their house, covering it with concrete plaster. Legal action followed, the police broke the floor and recovered the body. After completing the inquest proceedings, the body was sent for post-mortem. The accused, Ruby Sharma, is in custody and being interrogated, with further legal steps underway," the officer told ANI.
Police have not yet disclosed a motive for the alleged murder, and investigators are continuing to question the accused to establish the sequence of events leading to Surendra Sharma's death. Authorities are also examining financial transactions, digital records, and other evidence that could help reconstruct the timeline. The suspicious ATM withdrawals noticed during the investigation are also being scrutinised to determine whether they were made after Surendra's disappearance and whether they have any connection to the alleged crime.
The case has drawn attention because of the manner in which investigators say the body was concealed inside the family's residence for weeks. Police have stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that conclusions regarding the cause of death will only be drawn after the post-mortem report is received. Officials said further legal action will be taken based on forensic findings and other evidence collected during the course of the investigation. Ruby Sharma remains in police custody as investigators continue to question her and gather additional evidence before filing the final charges in the case.
