Adani Enterprises Ltd has entered into a strategic partnership with French clean-technology company Dioxycle to develop low-carbon chemical manufacturing in India, marking the Adani Group's entry into the sustainable chemicals sector. The collaboration will begin with a pilot plant dedicated to producing formic acid using captured carbon dioxide and renewable electricity. The facility will be established at an Adani Group site and is intended to demonstrate how industrial carbon emissions can be converted into valuable chemicals through clean energy-powered processes.
The pilot project is expected to serve as a proof of concept for commercial-scale production if the technology performs successfully. Formic acid, the first chemical to be produced under the partnership, has a wide range of industrial applications, including use in textiles, agriculture, leather processing, and manufacturing. By replacing conventional fossil fuel-based production methods with captured carbon and renewable power, the initiative aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting more sustainable industrial operations.
Beyond formic acid, Adani Enterprises and Dioxycle plan to explore the production of several other industrial chemicals that are widely used across sectors such as energy, packaging, advanced materials, and manufacturing. Many of these chemicals currently rely on fossil fuel-derived feedstocks, making them significant contributors to industrial emissions. The collaboration is expected to promote cleaner manufacturing practices while strengthening India's position in the rapidly growing low-carbon chemicals market.

Commenting on the partnership, Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Group, said the project represents India's first formic acid production facility powered entirely by renewable electricity and captured carbon dioxide. He noted that the initiative demonstrates how industrial collaboration and technological innovation can transform carbon emissions into valuable economic resources while supporting the country's broader sustainability and decarbonisation goals. The project also aligns with Adani Group's expanding clean energy and green industrial ambitions.
Sarah Lamaison, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Dioxycle, said the partnership highlights how advanced clean technology and large-scale industrial capabilities can work together to transform the production of essential chemicals. She added that India's abundant renewable energy resources, strong manufacturing ecosystem, and commitment to clean growth make it an ideal location for developing scalable low-carbon chemical solutions. The companies said the collaboration also reflects growing India-Europe cooperation in clean technologies as industries worldwide seek more sustainable and lower-carbon supply chains.
