The parents of CJP convenor Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday accused the government of failing to respect democracy after a large-scale police crackdown in the national capital led to the detention of their son along with YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and nearly 500 other protesters. Bhagwan Dipke questioned the heavy deployment of force against what he called a student agitation, asking whether “dacoits from Chambal” had gathered in Delhi and declaring that “dacoits are sitting in Parliament.”
Delhi Police launched a sweeping operation on Saturday that prevented the proposed CJP protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from taking place at Jantar Mantar. Officers detained Abhijeet Dipke, Dhruv Rathee and around 500 supporters, including several leaders who were taken into custody upon landing at Delhi airport, thereby foiling all attempts to assemble at the designated protest site in the heart of the capital.
When it was pointed out that the agitation was being held without permission, Bhagwan Dipke rejected the need for prior approval. He said every Indian has a legal right to protest and argued that the government would never grant permission for a demonstration intended to expose it. “This means they don’t follow democracy,” he told reporters, adding that there was simply no question of seeking permission in such circumstances. He affirmed that he stands firmly with his son.

Anita Dipke, Abhijeet’s mother, also strongly criticised the police action. She described the detentions as wrong on the part of the government and asked what the protesters had done to justify being taken into custody directly from a flight. “Do they go to the houses of rapists and arrest them? They don’t. But they arrested these people, including Abhijeet Dipke, when there was no need to do so,” she said.
Police confirmed that protesters were detained across the New Delhi area as officers used drones to continuously monitor the movement of people trying to reach Jantar Mantar. The operation successfully blocked the gathering and maintained tight control over key locations throughout the day, ensuring that the planned CJP stir could not proceed as intended.
Bhagwan Dipke further described his son as “Chandra Shekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh for me,” underlining his complete support for Abhijeet amid the detentions. With the large-scale preventive measures having disrupted the protest, the focus remained on the parents’ public criticism of the force deployed and the manner in which the student-led agitation was handled in the capital.
