Isudan Gadhvi, the Gujarat unit president of the Aam Aadmi Party, was released on bail late Wednesday night following his arrest during a protest at a police station in Devbhumi Dwarka district. The development came after a day of heightened political activity, with Gadhvi and several party supporters being taken into custody by Khambaliya police on charges including rioting and obstructing public servants.
The incident stems from events on April 1, when Gadhvi and his supporters reached the Khambaliya police station to protest the detention of an AAP worker, identified as Deepak, in connection with a robbery case. Police alleged that the group created disruption at the station, intimidated officials on duty, and broadcast live videos on social media from inside the premises, which they claimed could incite unrest.
Following his release, Gadhvi strongly criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, calling his arrest a “political conspiracy". He alleged that the police were acting under political pressure and accused the government of attempting to suppress opposition voices ahead of elections. Gadhvi maintained that his visit to the police station was aimed at seeking justice for a party worker and not to create disorder.

Addressing supporters after being granted bail, Gadhvi said the arrest reflected the ruling party’s insecurity amid AAP’s growing presence in Gujarat. He asserted that such actions would not deter the party’s campaign or its efforts to expand its base in the state. His remarks also highlighted the increasing political tensions as the state heads toward an election cycle.
Meanwhile, police officials have defended their actions, stating that the arrests were made in response to unlawful assembly and disruptive behaviour within a police station. Authorities have maintained that maintaining law and order was their primary concern and that legal procedures were followed in registering the case against Gadhvi and others involved.
The episode is expected to intensify political discourse in Gujarat, particularly in the Saurashtra region, where the incident took place. With elections approaching, the confrontation between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to further polarise the political landscape in the state.
