Five people were killed and several others injured after a speeding bus rammed into a crowd gathered at a roadside dance event in Bettiah late on Friday night. The accident occurred near Parau Tola Bankatwa, close to the city, when the bus reportedly swerved to avoid a collision with a truck and crashed into the area where an orchestra performance was underway.
The event was reportedly being held to celebrate the birth of a child, drawing a crowd near the roadside. The sudden arrival of the bus caused panic at the spot, with several people being struck by the vehicle. Officials and local residents responded after the incident, while the injured were taken to a government hospital in Bettiah for treatment.

The bus was travelling from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh towards Bettiah when the accident occurred. The vehicle was reportedly attempting to avoid a truck before it rammed into the orchestra performance and the people gathered around it. The impact resulted in multiple casualties and injuries, with emergency assistance arranged for those affected.
The five people who died have been identified as Bahadur Mahato, Sanjay Kumar, Bhola Dubey, Devendra Dubey and Changur Ram. Devendra Dubey, the father of the child whose birth was being celebrated at the event, was among those killed in the accident, adding to the tragedy for the family.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the official procedure. The injured remain under medical care at the government hospital in Bettiah, with some reportedly in critical condition.
