A 21-year-old man died on the spot Friday morning after a speeding school bus rammed into his two-wheeler from behind on a busy Chennai road, highlighting persistent road safety lapses amid the city's chaotic traffic. Eyewitnesses reported the bus driver lost control while overtaking, crushing the victim under its rear wheels in a horrific collision captured on nearby CCTV footage circulating online. Police swiftly detained the driver, impounded the vehicle, and launched an investigation into rash driving charges.

The accident occurred around 7:45 AM near Tambaram's congested GST Road stretch, a notorious hotspot for school commutes during peak hours. The deceased, identified locally as a college student commuting to his IT job in Porur, was flung off his bike upon impact, succumbing instantly to head and torso injuries. Rescue teams battled mangled wreckage to extricate the body, rushing it to Chromepet Government Hospital for postmortem as grieving family members gathered at the scene.

Chennai's roads claim over 1,800 lives annually, with two-wheelers—comprising 70% of vehicles—bearing 65% of fatalities per state traffic data.
