Uber has launched a limited-edition experience called “Uber Drift” in Japan, offering tourists and car enthusiasts the opportunity to experience professional drifting rides in iconic Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) performance cars. The new offering, introduced in Tokyo as part of Uber’s global “Go Anywhere” series, marks the company’s first such experiential mobility launch in the Asia-Pacific region.
The service allows customers to book a 90-minute drifting experience from the passenger seat alongside professional drivers using specially selected JDM vehicles. Drifting, a motorsport technique involving controlled oversteer through corners, has become deeply associated with Japanese car culture and gained international popularity through motorsports, gaming, and film franchises centered around street racing and tuning culture.
According to Uber, the experience is designed mainly for international visitors seeking a unique automotive attraction during their stay in Japan. Participants will reportedly be driven through specially curated routes and drifting sessions showcasing Japan’s performance car heritage. The company said the initiative combines tourism, entertainment, and local automotive culture in a format intended to appeal to both car enthusiasts and travelers looking for unconventional experiences.

The “Uber Drift” program is currently exclusive to Japan and features some of the country’s most recognizable JDM performance models, although detailed vehicle line-ups and routes may vary depending on availability and scheduling. Japan remains globally known for its vibrant tuning and drifting communities, with locations such as mountain passes, racing circuits, and specialized drift tracks becoming cultural landmarks among automotive fans worldwide.
To access the experience, eligible users can reportedly book Uber Drift through the Uber app during the promotional period, subject to availability and location restrictions. Since the offering is limited-edition, booking slots are expected to be limited and may prioritize advance reservations. Uber has not yet indicated whether the concept could expand to other countries or become a permanent service category in future markets.
The launch reflects a growing trend among mobility and technology companies toward creating experience-based tourism products beyond standard transportation services. By tapping into Japan’s internationally recognized drifting culture and JDM enthusiast community, Uber appears to be positioning the service as both a lifestyle attraction and a premium tourism experience aimed at global travelers visiting Tokyo and other major Japanese destinations.
