A doctor has outlined a structured, drug-free treatment plan for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), emphasising that sustained lifestyle modification — rather than medication — remains the most effective strategy for reversing the condition in its early stages.
NAFLD occurs when excess fat accumulates in the liver of individuals who consume little or no alcohol. Closely linked to obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, the condition can progress to inflammation, fibrosis, and even cirrhosis if left unmanaged. Medical experts stress that early intervention significantly improves outcomes.
According to the doctor’s plan, the cornerstone of treatment is gradual and sustained weight loss. A reduction of 7–10% of total body weight has been shown in clinical studies to reduce liver fat and improve inflammation markers. The recommended dietary approach focuses on whole foods — including vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats, and high-fibre carbohydrates — while limiting refined sugars, processed foods, and trans fats. Diet patterns similar to the Mediterranean model are often encouraged for liver health.

Regular physical activity is another critical component.
