Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for commuters as extensive traffic restrictions and diversions are being implemented across several major roads in the national capital during a motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026. The regulated movement is scheduled between 11 am and 3 pm, particularly along high-security VVIP corridors in central Delhi. Authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, leave with additional time and preferably use public transport to avoid delays caused by the movement of the motorcade.
Several important roads in and around central Delhi will experience regulated traffic movement during the rehearsal. The affected routes include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg and Dr Zakir Hussain Marg. Traffic restrictions will also extend to Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg and Africa Avenue Road. Commuters using these corridors have been asked to follow temporary diversion arrangements and comply with directions issued by traffic personnel deployed at strategic points.
The advisory covers additional roads including Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg and APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg are also among the routes where traffic movement may be regulated. Authorities have warned that bus routes could be temporarily diverted during VVIP carcade movements, while taxis and auto-rickshaws may also face short-term route changes depending on security requirements and traffic conditions.

Despite the restrictions on road traffic, Delhi Metro services are expected to continue normally across all stations. The traffic police have therefore encouraged commuters travelling towards major transit hubs, business districts and other busy areas to consider the Metro as an alternative to private vehicles. Essential and emergency services will continue to receive priority access, with medical and emergency vehicles being provided obstruction-free passage. Vehicles involved in essential services and utility supplies will also be permitted to move through the affected areas as required.
Parking regulations have also been tightened around the controlled corridors. Roadside parking will not be permitted within 200 metres of roads under traffic control, except at designated and authorised parking facilities. Commuters have been advised against stopping vehicles along restricted routes, as parked vehicles could obstruct emergency movement or interfere with the motorcade rehearsal. Non-destined commercial vehicles will also be prohibited from entering Delhi during the specified restriction period, while drivers have been asked to follow diversion signs and instructions from traffic personnel.
The traffic police have urged residents and visitors to remain alert throughout the period of heightened security and immediately inform the nearest police officer about any suspicious activity or unidentified objects. Authorities are expected to provide real-time updates on traffic conditions through official Delhi Police platforms and traffic information channels. With preparations for the BRICS Summit continuing, commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected corridors, use public transport wherever possible and keep sufficient time in hand for their journeys.
