Actor Suniel Shetty has revealed that he was an admirer of Indian cricketer KL Rahul long before the batter became a member of his family through marriage. Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran actor said he first met Rahul as a fan and was impressed not only by his performances on the field but also by his personality and conduct off it. Rahul later married Suniel Shetty's daughter, actor Athiya Shetty.

Recalling his first impression of the cricketer, Suniel Shetty said he had always admired Rahul's game and considered meeting him a "fanboy moment." He praised Rahul for being humble, polite and soft-spoken, adding that the cricketer's behaviour and achievements have made him a positive role model for young people.

"It was a fanboy moment and I met him like a fan. To this day that's how I look at it as somebody who's very well spoken, soft, humble and leaves a great impact on youth, whenever and wherever he plays," Suniel Shetty said in an interview with Mid Day.

When asked whether he offers cricket-related advice to Rahul, Suniel Shetty said he deliberately avoids discussing professional careers at home. Instead, he explained that family conversations focus on values and personal character rather than work or achievements, allowing everyone to maintain a healthy balance between professional and personal life.

"We don't discuss careers, we discuss character at home and keep it simple, very, very simple," he said. The actor added that he believes maintaining simplicity and strong values is more important than constantly talking about professional success.

KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty have remained one of the most followed celebrity couples in India since their marriage. Suniel Shetty's comments have drawn attention for highlighting his long-standing admiration for Rahul, emphasizing that his respect for the cricketer began well before their family relationship was established.
